China National Petroleum Corp and Venezuela will work jointly on a US$14 billion development project in the South-American nation’s Orinoco heavy oil belt. This was one of the investment deals that Venezuelan officials agreed prior to President Nicolas Maduro's visit to China on 21 September. China has granted Venezuela roughly US$40 billion in loans the past several years. China in return gets 600,000 barrels of oil each day and has gained access to the immense natural resources of Venezuela.
